At WF-AID, not only do we believe that every child has a right to an education, but we are actively helping children living in impoverished communities make the most of their education. Through our Brighter Futures campaign, we are giving children around the world the tools they need to learn and succeed.

Millions of children around the world are deprived of the opportunity to learn and build up their skillsets, preventing them from earning a living and breaking out of the poverty cycle. In parts of Africa, children are too hungry to go to school. In Pakistan, schools don’t have adequate furniture or equipment for the children.

These children have dreams. They aspire to be teachers or doctors, just like every other child. However, they don’t have the necessary tools or support to work towards those dreams. With your help, we want to empower future generations by providing them with the support they need to make sure they attend school and make the most of their education.

We are working with our regional federations, Africa Federation, India Federation, and Pakistan Federation, and also with our teams and partners in countries around the world. You can read more about the projects in each country below.

We are working with our partners in India to provide children at a number of different schools with school uniforms and educational supplies. These children come from low income families, whose families can’t afford these essential items for them. We are also working with our regional federation, India Federation, to renovate local schools and provide them with new equipment for the students.

Also with India Federation, we will be funding the tuition fees for Khoja students from low-income families in India. These students are of varying ages, covering primary school to higher education. This will be a big step towards a life out of the poverty cycle for these children and their families.

In Iraq, we are supporting students by providing them with school bags and stationery so they can be well equipped for their lessons.

23 million primary aged children in Africa attend school hungry. This impacts their focus and concentration, not to mention their energy levels and mood, making it very difficult for them to gain anything from their school day.

We provide children in Kenya and Tanzania with a hot and nutritious breakfast every single morning. You can read more about this initiative, called Fill My Cup, and the impact it has on children in East Africa here.

In Pakistan, we are providing a newly built school with furniture and equipment, such as desks, chairs and stationery. This will make the school functional and allow children in the local area, most of whom are from low income families, to attend and learn, giving them a chance at a better future. We are working with Pakistan Federation to provide support for children of our Khoja community and help them get an education and break out of the poverty cycle.

One of the students we’re supporting in India is Afreen*. Afreen, aged 11, and her sister, aged 9, come from a low income family in the Dindigul District in India. Her father passed away five years ago, leaving her mother as the sole earner and caregiver for the family. Her mother turned to relatives for financial support, but they were all in a similar situation and so unable to help. She tried to get loans from banks and local financers, but due to their financial situation, they were denied any loans. She was relying on these loans to pay for her daughter’s education and supplies.
